 Great game- good customer serviceJan 29, 2010
I love this game- the way it makes my brain work. I played the original as a kid and recently got the advanced version. I read these reviews prior to buying and see what the other reviewer was saying about not enough indicator pegs. I wrote an email to Pressman toys and included a picture of us trying to play with strips of paper after the little pegs ran out. The toy rep wrote me back a week later and said they would send me more pegs no charge. I just got them today. I am pleased that they righted their wrong!
Good ol' gameJul 29, 2009
I was kinda surprised by the cheap feel of the game (and even the box!) considering the [..] price tag. It was however, a very fun and challenging game. Be careful to not lose the small pieces. If you did, or just thought there weren't enough, you could always buy another board! ;)
My 9 year old loves this gameJun 03, 2009
It's a fun game, doesn't take long, and teaches logical thinking. II played it when I was a kid, and my oldest loves it. Seems durable enough, no complaints so far.

I know this game since when I was a kid, and I have recently bought it for my 8 year old son. The game really makes you think through different possibilities, matching them against the "response" pegs of your opponent. The quality of the pegs could have been better, and the number of the white and black pegs is just about enough, which are minor drawbacks of this edition.
I suggest to buy this game rather than regular 4-peg mastermind, since you can always play it with either three-peg or four-peg combinations if you want to make it a bit easier for the kids.
Fun and great introduction to deductive reasoningOct 08, 2008
Mastermind is a classic game of logic and deductive reasoning. Player A creates a pattern behind a barrier consisting of pegs of various colors. Player B then has a certain number of turns to figure out what that pattern is. On his first turn, he makes a guess with a random pattern. Player A then tells him, through use of other pegs, how many pegs are of the right color and how many are of the right color and in the right place. Player B then adapts his patterns and tries to use what he knows to make more and more accurate patterns. The better that one is able to reason, the more quickly one will be able to win.
All in all, it is a lot of fun and is enjoyable for players of all ages. It is a tool that can be used to teach children about reasoning and logic. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to have a great game evening. Even though it is, technically, only for two players, one can get more people involved by having discussions about what is known at any given stage and reasoning together about what the next attempted pattern should be.
