4What Music?Feb 08, 2009
This toy was given to my 8 month old when she was born, she has loved it but we could never get the music to work no matter what we did, until I read the reviews on this toy. I had thrown away the box so I wasn't even sure what it was supposed to do and switching batteries did not work. I read the reviews and decided to try new batteries again and press the tummy really hard... all of a sudden it is working. So thanks for the reviews it really bugged me that it didn't work and now I know my daughter will love this toy even more than she already does.

5twins fight over toyJul 07, 2008
my 5 month old twin girls fight over this toy, they LOVE IT. When i put it in front of them, they shake their hands, suck in their breath and eyes get wide and excited. They LOVe the music, it is the only thing at times that keeps a melt down at bay. We don't go anywhere without "tortuga". They love the mirror, crinkly uh... flipper and chew on the teether flipper as well as suck on the snorkel like their lives depend on it (does a turtle really need a snorkel?) The music calms them instantly and plays two short tunes that is not at all annoying. My only gripe is that there should be a switch to make the music play continuously. We are constantly squeezing the poor guy's tummy. Two thumbs up.

4My Son's FavoriteMay 09, 2008
Grandma was delighted to give this to our little boy for Christmas when he was 3 months old. He fell in love with it and "Neptune" is the go-to toy to get his attention. I've seen him closely examine the crinkly parts, play with the little plastic beads. More recently he's started teething at 7 months and chews on the soft plastic yellow fish. He loves it.

Unfortunately, I'm here because I have to buy another one and its the primary reason that it isn't getting 5 stars. Five months after he has gotten it, Neptune died and the music doesn't play anymore (yes, I changed the batteries AND correctly). The music started becoming distorted, so I knew this day was coming. The other downside is that you can't put it in the washing machine and the center part that plays the music is hard to push to make it play.

His attention should be spread out to other things and he is getting along just fine without it, Neptune however makes him light up so I plan to buy another one.

2Safety IssueFeb 13, 2008
I am the parent of twin boys who have enjoyed Baby Einstein's fun and educational DVDs and toys.

As infants, the boys greatly enjoyed their Baby Einstein Neptune Activity Toy for a number of months. One day I noticed that the border around the mirror had started to separate from the mirror itself, causing an extremely sharp edge to be exposed. I immediately removed this toy from the boys' toy collection due to severe concern about the extremely sharp edges very badly cutting little fingers and/or mouths or lips.

I am greatly disappointed in my experience with one of Baby Einstein's typically well-trusted toys for play, enjoyment, and educational purposes.

I felt that it was very important to let other parents know about this safety concern regarding the toy. I might also emphasize that the toy was subjected to completely normal use, no type of abuse or misuse.
