I've had this game for over 25 years, easily. My box has a greyish color and my version of the game is from the 1970s. Yes, this was the trivia game that was popular before Trivial Pursuit came along. Any number can play and I was in a couple of tournaments for this at game conventions. Here's how it works:
Everyone gets a score sheet where you write your answers and score. Five categories are announced. You have the choice of keeping them general or making them more specific. For example - "Famous Kings" would be a general topic, but you could make it specific by having it be British or French. The specifics are listed on each topic card. After the categories are announced, you then choose five letters out of the bag. The answers will start with these letters. All of the letters are included, so yes, Q, X and Z may pop up. Players write down the categories and letters. Then you start the five minute timer. It's amazing how fast five minutes goes by when you're playing this game.
When time is up, players read their answers. It's usually best to start with the category on the left (the first one called) and then do all five letters from that category. Duplicate answers are fine and the words "a" and "the" are understood in all cases. You score one point for each acceptable answer.
Scoring - there are ten rows to score, five going across and five going down. You multiply the number of right answers in each row by itself. So if you got all five answers right in a row, 5 X 5 = 25. Thus, 4 X 4 = 16, 3 X 3 = 9, 2 X 2 = 4 and one is the lonliest number, as the song by Three Dog Night goes. Add up the score for each row. A perfect score for a round would be 250 (25 X 10).
I recently got this game "out of the closet" as it were are brought it to my trivia meetup group here in NYC. It went over better than I had thought it would. The categories and the letters can probably make or break you. but there are a variety of subjects to keep the fresh and not repeat. One thing I tried was using the letter die from the "Scattergories" game. The more difficult letters aren't on it and it provides spontanaiety. If yoi're looking for a good trivia challenge with different subjects in each round, gave this game a try. You'll have to order it since I don't believe it's in print anymore.

Awesome product! played when I was younger, never gets outdated like some other games do. Answers change depending on who you are playing iwth and their experience.
