Excellent Learning Toy and Real ClockAug 09, 2007
By L. Palazzolo I've been searching for a "learning clock" for my 4-year old and happily my search ended with the Fisher-Price Teaching Clock. My son enjoys playing with this and has grasped time telling on the hour and the half-hour. I'm sure that more detailed time telling will follow. But in the meantime there is no pressure to learn.
The clock chimes on the hour, and on the half hour. You can choose from different sounds or no sound at all.
The little portion of the clock has the real time in digital format. The clock hands do not move automatically, they are designed for the child to move. When the child moves them, the clock informs them as to what time they have picked. It doesn't really show in the picture, but the big clock face shows the seconds... e.g. behind the number 1 is a small 5, behind the 2 is a small 10, behind the 3 is a small 15. I really like that part.
The only thing missing is a second hand. But once a child masters the skills presented in this toy, he or she will easily understand the second-hand concept.
There are two volume choices, two skill levels, and 3 buttons for Learn, Match, and Game.
This is a well-thought out learning toy. It even has a bit of personality... the big clock is "Tic" and she does the talking. The little clock "Toc" is the side-kick. My son likes this toy, and he is gaining familiarity with time concepts and time telling. When the time comes for him to really learn and understand these concepts in school, he will have a bit of a head start, and, hopefully, he won't be intimidated. I highly recommend this toy for as early as 2 or 3... and just keep it available for them to play with until they are in school and solid on telling time.

Great ToyOct 17, 2007
By Julie Morehouse My 3 year old nephew loves to look at the digital clocks around the house and tell us what time it is and when he saw this in the store he begged me for it. I finally gave in and ordered him one and he loves it. When we took a recent trip to visit family he insisted he take "toc" with us. He loves the play mode where you have to clap 7 times or touch your toes 5 times before time runs out. Even his 1 year old brother loves to play along too! This was a great teaching tool and has been well worth the money.

Not ImpressedMar 28, 2008
By Sharyl Felice We just purchased this clock for our 4 year old and are very disappointed in it. The games and other teaching features are just okay, but the part I really hate, is that it can't be turned off. The chime that goes off, every half hour or hour is set by a blue button on the upper right corner, that the kids press all day long. It has four sounds, a chime, a cow mooing, a rooster crowing and silent. The problem is that the kids play with it and it gets left of the annoying cow or rooster sound and then goes all night. I thought I had the answer to this by making sure it wasn't in my sons room at night, but then I could hear it from the family room all the way in my room! I was so tired and mad that I put it outside in the backyard until I could take the batteries out the next day. I am shocked that this toy has such good reviews and just wanted other parents to be aware of this annoying feature. If I had know about this, I would not have bought it.

Our Daughter received this as a gift for her third Birthday and loves it.
It is a great learning too and also fun, she is always asking us the time and now she presses the button on her new clock and it tells her the time.
We love this product and would recommend it!

Poor Idea - Poor ConstructionMay 11, 2008

I was really disappointed when this showed up. The first one arrived broken. The second one was so loud, even on the "low volume", we had to put tape over the speaker. Took 15 minutes just to "program" it with the correct time. Then, as another reviewed noted, the darn thing can't be shut off. Half the night you hear it making animal sounds and chiming noises. What idiot designs these things? I find it confusing in the manner in which it attempts to teach time, and will have to find something better. Very little thought went into this thing.
