A tip on how to crack this eggDec 01, 2010
By Rex After reading the reviews on amazon, I decided to take my chances and buy this egg for my daughter. When I first attempted to open the egg it was extremely difficult, and nearly impossible for a child to do.
However, after examining the egg, I took the top of the egg (the larger piece) and stretched the opening with my fingers. After doing this a couple of times, the egg is very easy to open.
I hope this tip helps.

This is one ROTTEN EGG folksNov 23, 2010
By Irishlawlass I bought this egg despite the reviews saying it was very hard for a little one to open. Uh -- CHEA-- that, my friends, was the understatement of the year. I decided to open it tonight, in advance of Christmas, so we can get everything ready to play with Christmas morning before we wrap it. I struggled to open this egg out the package even with longer nails to help pry it apart (I'd soon find out that even if I had talons I still couldn't pry it open). Once I got it open, I tried to grease the parts where it connects so that it would MAYBE open easier. Nope. NOW IT'S LOCKED SHUT. My husband and I both tried everything to open the egg but it's not budging -- like EVER again. Thankfully we took the inside portion out before shutting it so our daughter can use that part. The only fun apart about this egg was my husband and I making fun of each other for not being able to open a stupid toy egg. It's not worth returning because it would cost half the price (at least) of the item's price to ship it back. Just be warned (and heed the warning that I did not) that this egg does NOT open easily if AT ALL. Pass it up and put the money toward a Small World Living Toys play food item that actually works.

A perfect addition to your Haba or play food collection! The fabric egg pops out of the shell when opened! I wish Haba made more like this!

A CUTE IDEA, BUT...Sep 11, 2009

I love the idea of a shell that "cracks" and then has what looks like a fried egg inside. The biggest problem I have with this toy is that the shell is almost impossible to open. A couple of people said that it was a little difficult to open, but that is an understatement! Maybe there's a trick to it, but I can't figure out what it is. A lot of people said that the egg "pops out" when opened, but that's not really the case, either. I was excited to give this to my daughter, but now I'm just disappointed.

Agree with others, difficult to openDec 31, 2011

Aside from the fact that you could make this yourself out of cloth very easily, as others mentioned it is very difficult to open. A white Easter egg and a sewing machine would yeild the same result and not be so tough on your fingers.
