I chose the Melisa and Doug jacks for my daughter because I wanted to get a good quality set like I had back in the 60's. I was very careful to read the reviews so I wouldn't end up with over-sized jacks where you can't fit all 10 in your hand. These jacks are a little bigger than the ones I had as a kid (I still have them), and they are metal....but the two balls that came with the set are PATHETIC!! They have rough seams in the middle with rubber that needs to be trimmed off, and what's worse, THEY HARDLY EVEN BOUNCE....like, about 12" if you're lucky. The box is just an inexpensive, stenciled, glued together thing that's ok, and there's a little leather-looking cloth bag with a drawstring.

I bought these for nostalgic value, wanting to share the fun of jacks with my kids. The balls have seams in them, so they don't bounce straight. Very disappointing, and definitely not worth it.

I purchased these jacks for my 8 year old grandaughter for Christmas---the jacks are great, but neither ball bounces. How can you play jacks, when the ball doesn't bounce? Very dissapointed !!!

I bought this toy for a 42 year old friend that collects jacks. She was very impressed with the quality of the entire set. The wood box and the leather pouch are well made. The jacks are metal and the balls are a good size for competitive play. With all the plastic toys out there - it's refreshing to see this quality paired with a good price.

Yes, as a child I played with Jacks! Such fun times!
I purchased through Amazon, the wooden Jacks, Tic Tac Toe, and the Japanese Checkers. These items were Melissa and Doug products and they offer wonderfully unique educational items.
The reason for my purchases, is I decorated my Grandson's (I babysit daily) nursery in good ole fashioned toys! The items purchased are just what I expected with the toys. They are stressed wood, well made and look like antiques; which is indeed what I was looking for. Everyone does nurseries different, but I wanted to share with my grandson the experience of the toys of the past. These were PERFECT and will be fun to play with when he is old enough!
I also added a large picture of "Jacks" on an easel, one of old balls with a single baseball pictured and 2 hobby horse pictures. I added a wooden items, such as, a toybox with antique pictures of a basketball and a baseball player hitting a ball,etc. a wood hobby horse, a "Jack in the Box" and wooden train, trucks and airplanes.
Yes, I accomplished the unique nursery for my grandson and I know we will have lots of fun times playing with the "Old Fashioned Toys". I share this idea, just in case; some grandmas out there may want to share their childhood toys with their grandchildren.
Amazon is the best because they offered the bulk of the items mentioned above and made it simple to accomplish my grandson's nursery desires!
