Moon Sand is Fun, this kit needs improvementDec 07, 2007
By J. Black I got this big tub of moon sand because of the good price and it said it came with an inflatable sandbox. The description of the inflatable sand box was vauge. I was hoping for one that had velcro closure lid like in the other sets. I took a chance because of the price.
The sand come packed in a large bucket. Inside are three bags of moon sand, red, blue, and sand color. The inflatble sand box was very small and didn't not have a lid. It was not big enough to hold all the sand. Maybe one color at a time. The lid of the bucket has several shapes in it and these are suppose to be the molds. They would never work as molds because the sand would crumble before you could get the formed shapes off.
Basically if you are buying this kit, you should be buying based on the 7.5 lbs of moon sand, the rest of the kit is useless. I was fine with the value I got for the amount of sand. My son has a form of autism and his play therapy uses moon sand and he loves it so I was happy to get the sand at this price. We just built our own mini indoor sandbox out of wood. You really need a sandbox or some sort of container because moon sand is fun but really messy!

This is so cooool The kids love it!!Dec 27, 2007
By J. Diehl We have the smaller size kit here and just ordered two 7 1/2 pound buckets to add to our collection. We can't wait!
You need to pack the sand really good (press firmly) for it to work in any of the molds. This is such a fun product, everyone plays with it. Including Mom! Make your own sand box. Buy one of those big aluminum pans and presto...your own sand box. :) Mess? In 18 years you'll be wishing the kids were around to make a mess. : )Have fun!!

If your going to get Moon Sand, go with the Mega BucketJan 07, 2008

Moon Sand does just like it says, it feels like moist sand and never dries out. Kids definitely need a lot of it to play with. It's like going to the beach, you need a bunch of sand to make anything with it. You can't make a sand castle with just a baggy of sand. If your looking to get someone Moon Sand, this mega bucket is definitely the way to go.
The inflatable sandbox is fine in my opinion. I didn't realise myself that it even came with it, so it was actually a good bonus for us! Invision a large square blow up pool for Barbie and her friends, that's the inflatable sandbox. But I will say this for it, my daughter played with all that Moon Sand in that sandbox on top of our kitchen table, with tons of water and others toys for 4 days straight (we left the sand, water and toys in it the whole time and didn't put it up), and it didn't leak or come through AT ALL! I was shocked myself.
My daughter who's 6 years set the whole thing up herself. She loves it and truthfully this stuff was a lot easier to clean up and put away when she was done then when she plays with playdoh! Which again shocked me, as I was expecting it to be a huge mess.

Lots of Fun!Jan 12, 2008

I am an educator and I absolutely love watching my students play with their moon sand. The children have so much fun! My rule for the moon sand is that they have to keep the sand in the blow-up container; if they don't they have to leave the center. Even my non-verbal three year olds can follow the rule, and enjoy playing in the moon sand. So, for those of you that think moon sand is too messy-----set some rules! I bought moon sand for my son for Christmas because he always wanted to play in it after school. The same rule applies at home and he does great too. I have no moon sand to get out of the carpet or floor. The moon sand is smooth, and not gritty and messy like real sand. It wipes off your hands really easy.
ENJOY your moon sand.

Fun outdoor toyDec 23, 2007
By My Son's Mom My son is 7. He loves moonsand. We are getting more. It is no play dough (that is a big lie), but it sticks together like wet sand without the water. It can get wet too. It is great for the patio table or a real sand box. A little bit of the beach at home. And anyone who has been to the beach knows that sometimes it feels like you have brought half the beach home with you. It's sand!
