4Needs to be for an older child - 5 or overSep 26, 2007
By A. Woodley "Patroness, Janeites, the Austen list"
I think these larger ponys really need to be for an older child, their hair is so long it gets knotted and destroyed really quickly - this is especially so with this one which has cold water on it all the time, that seems to gets her hair in knots much quicker. I have just ended up plaiting it for my little 4 year old to play with.

The concept of this is actually quite fun, The surface of the pony reacts to heat and cold, in the cold it goes white and when it is warm it goes all sorts of colours, (or is it vice versa). WE experimented with freezing the pens, but it is not just the cold that changes teh colours, it really needs to be damp and cold. The top of the pens are quite porous but very hard plastic. I have been surprised how hard wearing they are especially with little fingers at them all the time.

The changing colour of the pony has been very appealing for the kids and they have been experimenting with how to make patterns on it which has been fun, so it has been a lot more adaptable than some of the other large ponys.

My daughters would both give the large ponys rave reviews, however I can see them losing their appeal relatively soon, Star catcher loses its ability to change colour where the surface gets scratched (being dragged along the ground) so you have to watch out for that.

5Cheap, cute, and isn't noisyDec 29, 2007

The only drawback I had to this toy is trying to get the pens frozen. Either they were icicles to the point that the little sponge on the end would be too hard to put the water on the pony or they were still too warm in the fridge to turn the pony purple.

The hair has a VERY nice silky texture, and the pony is fairly large-sized! I thought it was a little smaller but she's about 6-7 inches long.

Getting it out of the box is an absolute nightmare. It will require scissors and possibly a knife or other delicate cutting instrument to remove the hair from the plastic string sown INTO it to keep it in place.

StarCatcher accidentally got a haircut when I finally got her out ...

I'm a collector of MLP, and I was lucky enough to get one from a friend over the pony forums. However, I HATED her color change feature. I just didn't like the colors it turned her, and the fact that after awhile, her color change coat just didn't work like it needed to.

I acetoned it off, and now she's beautiful and pure white, just like she was supposed to be! I love her sooo much, because she's a very pretty girl. She and my Rainbow Dash styling Pony get along great ^_^ I would recommend this for an older child who would actually take care of it, because 1, the color change coat is a pain if it gets scratched and is a nightmare to remove, and 2, her hair is so long and pretty that it is easily tangled if not taken care of.

I give it 4 stars, just because the color change coat was a serious drag to remove. But otherwise I love her! ^_^

PS. If you decide to remove the color change coat with acetone, do NOT, let me repeat, do NOT let it touch any of her symbols or eyes, as it will remove them! (I already knew this, but just thought I'd give fair warning to non-pony restorers ^^)

5Love Star Catcher!!!Apr 22, 2008

I'm a MLP collector, so I was really surprised to see a Pony with changing colours and all that. But to be honest, that wasn't what call my attention to Star Catcher, but how beauty is this Pony did. I loved her pose, her colours, everything about her.

I read in some review that the Pony is big, but I think I wasn't prepared to see how BIG it really is!!! Anyway, I'm glad to see a bigger Pony, specially one so beautiful as Satr Catcher is, with all the little drawings she has on her body.

Honestly, I would recomend her to other collectors, and I think that kid's would enjoy her as well. I'm sure I would have enjoyed her if she had been there when I was little!!!

This was a Christmas gift for my 6 year old daughter. Fun for her, but keeping track of those ice pens can be tricky and they seem to be a bit messy when they start to melt. Overall, we are happy with it....it's nice to have a toy that can be colored in over and over again!
