| | | Description: | | The players are plantation owners in Puerto Rico in the days when ships had sails. Growing up to five different kind of crops: Corn, Indigo, Coffee, Sugar and Tobacco, they must try to run their business more efficiently than their close competitors; growing crops and storing them efficiently, developing San Juan with useful buildings, deploying their colonists to best effect, selling crops at the right time, and most importantly, shipping their goods back to Europe for maximum benefit. A novel game system lets players choose the order of the phases in each turn by allowing each player to choose a role from those remaining when it is their turn. Puerto RicoMar 08, 2010 Lots of thinking involved, totally worth it! Only problem is you need at least 3 people to play, and I want to play it all the time!!
Game worth taking the time to learn to playFeb 27, 2010 This game took me and my little sisters (10 and 13), me 22, a solid 1.5 hours to learn how to play and fully understand the rules. But after the first, very slow game. The game would go at a nice pace. This game is really for the people who are tired of games that are based purely on chance or heavily on it even. I really like it, and found out my 10 year old sister is really smart, world watch out.
Oh, and the packaging made it look like it was in Dutch or something, but it turned out to be in English.
not hard to learn but...Feb 26, 2010 ...there are many details and small pieces to read.
I've only played this game once and at first I was a bit intimidated by the set up. Once we start playing, though, it became more clear to me. Although it's not one of those games I could learn how to win the first time around. I can see how the game can become quite complicated (not the game play, but more the strategy) with a table of good players.
What an awesome game!Feb 10, 2010 It's a complicated game to explain until you start to play it. We've introduced it to at least six people now and everyone has liked it, but the best way to learn how to play it is to just jump in and do it. Terrific game- we're hooked!
Puerto Rico = strategyFeb 05, 2010 We are huge fans of Catan and after reading many ther reviews decided to give Puerto Rico a try. It was a big hit with the men who have all played it. I miss the social aspect that Catan brings but highly enjoy the strategic opportunities. There is no "right" strategy and many different ways to win, so I expect many more hours learning and honing my Puerto Rico skills.
