A Granddaughter's First DollDec 31, 2007
By J. Robbins

In November I purchased a Russ Berrie 16" Button Eye Raggedy Ann for my one-year-old Granddaughter. She was delivered promptly in a cardboard post office box. I wished she had been packaged in her own Raggedy box for better Christmas wrapping. I was very disappointed in the stitching around the apron. In fact, I took out the upper apron stitching and my seamstress sister resewed in for me. A few strands of her yarn hair at the back of her head had come out of the stitching and had to be pulled back through. Otherwise, she was cute and all the colors were bright and clean.

Raggedy Ann--my favorite red-head!Jan 16, 2008

Oh, my! What nostalgic memories this classic doll brings back ... of snowy Ohio days spent playing in my bed or on the floor with my very own Raggedy Ann ... while my brother tried to grab her and hide her from me. Those were the carefree days when kids enjoyed the simpler things in life, when we all thought we were invincible. Ah-hhhhhh ...
I enjoyed giving both Raggedy Ann and Andy to my kids when they were young, and relating the history of how they came to be classics ... through the books written about them. Reading the books to the kids was an enjoyable experience, too, as my Grannie Sue had read them to me ... once upon a time long ago. ... sigh ...
This doll is not only cute and lovable, she appears to be quite durable. However, I already see a few loose threads, so I suppose she won't endure like the one I had as a child--but what does in this day of rapid assembly-line production? Not saying this doll is assembled in that fashion, just that NOTHING receives the tender, loving care as it did in the "olden" days. That's progress for you!
The history of The Raggedies reads like a fairytale. Did you know that the doll was created by Alice Benton Gruelle and the name was inspired from two poems written by family friend James Whitcomb Riley ("The Raggedyman" and "Little Orphant Annie")? I was surprised to learn that the doll came before the books ... because it's usually the other way around. Alice Benton Gruelle's son Johnny not only painted the face on the first Raggedy, he wrote the books that followed.
How the books came to be published is another fascinating tale. For more details visit this website: http://www.raggedyman.com/ourstory.htm
Kids around the world love all the Raggedies; they've become 20th Century icons. It seems that no one can resist that bright red hair and those big button eyes! Can you?

Raggedy AnnJan 28, 2008

Bought for my granddaughter. This is reminiscent of my Raggedy Ann when I was a child, as well as the one my daughter had. Some dolls I saw in stores looked fake, but this is just like the original. Very pleased with it.

Granddaughter's Christmas presentJan 12, 2008
By K. Price I bought this for my granddaughter for Christmas. She is 2 and this is a very good doll to squeeze and sleep with. Raggedy Ann has the button eyes and is very cute. I don't think she is a durable doll, but she will last for the love she will receive.

Great doll for the price. Looks very similar to the original, however, she does not have the "I Love You" red heart tattoo on her heart (as does the original).
