Instructions for "pairing" are unclearAug 30, 2010 I don't know maybe it's me, but at first I didn't think to use the Controller to Register or "pair" the Remote to the PS3 and it wasn't mentioned. The instructions assume that everyone should "know" these things and what a XMB menu stands for. Plus, it doesn't say how to find the Settings that have a logo like a small suitcase or whatever it's supposed to be. But you go to the DVD settings for the TV, a menu appears, then tap the Left directional arrow on the Controller until you find it then X select it. Now you have to arrow down to find the Accessory Settings with this goofy logo and select this. Then it will give directions to register the remote by pressing the Enter and Start buttons simultaneously until the screen changes. That took, off and on, about 5 minutes. I was wondering if I had a bad remote. I changed the batteries again and spun them around pressed both again and held it and finally the screen changed and it said that the remote was registered. I still don't like the fact that you can turn the PS3 on by pressing down the Playstation logo, but can't turn it off unless you do so from a menu on the TV screen. Why is that? Maybe I changed my mind about turning it on. I have to get up to turn the PS3 off. It's not that I'm lazy but why doesn't a Remote Control have an Off button! Plus, Amazon gives me two review selections for a game and not for a PS3 remote! How much fun is this game? How do you rate this game overall? Duh, it's a Sony Blu-ray Remote Control and not a game. And, I must say, it was no fun figuring this out or getting it registered. And since there's no "off" button I gave it a 3 Star rating. And, yes, that "stop" button doesn't work the same as on my DVR but let's face it the U.S. doesn't require compatibility compliance as some other countries do so we just have to bite the bullet. However, it does make life more complex remembering which controller does or doesn't do what or how.
Yep. It's a Remote Control.Aug 23, 2010 The PS3 remote control uses Bluetooth, which means you don't have to point it at the system for it to work, but it also runs through batteries a bit faster than your standard TV remote. You'll probably need to replace or recharge its AA's every 6 months or so, depending on use. Also, even though many of the buttons feature the traditional PS3 controller symbols, the remote only works for media playback, not games.
Other than that, it's a standard remote control. Works as advertised.

A necessity, should be purchased with EVERY PS3Aug 23, 2010 I honestly don't think I could go back to using my PS3 without this remote. Although I play a few games, a lot of the time the PS3 is on, its playing some sort of video. DVD, Blu Ray and Netflix Watch Instantly are enhanced so much by using the remote. The Controller is fine just to play and pause but one or both of the sticks inevitably gets knocked in the process bumping the video either forward or back. What makes me extremely glad to have a PS3 and not just a blu ray player however is the Bluetooth connection, used for both the controller and this remote, bluetooth allows the system to be controlled through the door of the cabinet in which it is housed. It use to be that someone would be distracted by the lights and close the door, but if the movie needed to be paused, the door would have to be reopened, not so anymore. Through walls, doors and around corners this remote works perfectly, and the ease of use it provides with watching films on the PS3 is priceless.
There are two features that this remote lacks, one is useless and one is important.
The feature that I never use and is not included is the ability to control FF speed between 1.0 and 3.0X which is accomplished normally with the right joystick. The feature which i wish had been thought out on this remote is a backlight. My TV remote has one so why shouldn't my DVD remote, no more fumbling in the dark would have been nice but was over looked.
I also don't understand why it doesn't use the same rechargeable battery system as the PS3 controller, maybe to keep the price down and the batteries last forever anyway so its not a big deal. Finally, one thing I wish was thought out on the remote is a keyboard. It has a number pad, but unfortunately it doesn't work like a phone when it comes to entering text.

A Must have that shouldn't beAug 21, 2010 There really should be no need for this remote to begin with because Sony should have included an IR port on the PS3 so we could use any universal remote to control Blu-Ray and DVD playback. My TV has HDMI-CEC which does allow its remote to have minimal control over the PS3 through the HDMI but this is very minimal it has the ability to turn it on by selecting it though the input menus of the TV. My TV remote will then navigate through the PS3 menus perfectly fine and you can start up Blu-Rays or DVD and navigate through their menus but after you start the movie the only ability my TV remote has over the movie is to pause and resume play, so I decided to get this remote for the added control over movies.
The button layout on the remote is acceptable and the remote gives the added functionality that I wanted that my TV remote was just not able to so this remote was worth what it cost, but it does have a few problems and one annoying flaw.
It is not back-lit, for the most part this is no big deal but I have only had the remote a few weeks now and once I am more familiar with the button layout this should not be a problem at all.
The biggest and most annoying issue of this remote is that it turns the PS3 on with the touch of any button and this is very easy to do on accident and with HDMI-CEC enable this becomes even more annoying because it doesn't just turn on the PS3 but changes my TV to display it automatically, a very nice feature when you want to use your PS3, but when you set down another remote next to this one and bump any button and it changes your TV's input setting because your PS3 turned on is very annoying. This leaves two options disable HDMI-CEC and loose some very neat features like just having to turn off the TV and having my PS3 turn off as well and automatically switching inputs to my PS3 when I turn it on and want to use it, or keep this remote away from the others when not using it.
Now even if I do disable the HDMI-CEC there is still a problem with how easy the remote turns on the PS3 because there is no dedicated power button so I cannot just hit one button and turn it back off. I do have my PS3 automatically set to automatically turn off after 1 hour so not the biggest deal and I can always try to turn it off without switching my TVs display.
I would imagine that this press any button and turn on the system could be fixed through a PS3 firmware update and if this ever happens I would give this remote a 4 out 5 starts, but as it stands it only gets 3.
Ultimately the PS3 should have just had an IR sensor so any universal remote would work with it, some may try to defend the PS3's lack of an IR port by saying bluetooth is the future, well it may be the future but if the device so so high tech it should be able to work with current technology as well and this remote should not be the must have that it is.

A sexy, sleek and convenient remote!Aug 06, 2010 Well we all know the PS3 looks great with dvds and blu-ray so why not add a nice remote? This remote does it jobs, more user friendly and it is sexy and sleek looking. I really don't want to use 2 hands to play my movies. It is annoying. This isn't a video game. This is a movie for crying out loud! This remote is more user friendly than the dual shock controller because it is all set up like a blu-ray remote with all necessary buttons. Plus, it is easier to navigate the navigation screen. And lets be real, people! It is movie night, you got your girl with you and you want her to pause the movie for a second. It isn't "sexy" to give her a dual shock controller which she doesn't know how to use and makes her think you are some video game freak. You might as well brag about your +100 video game collection. You give her the sleek blu-ray remote which she knows how to work.
