3Great Mobile but DangerousMay 09, 2003

We love this mobile and so does our 5 month old son. He squeals with delight whenever it is turned on. However, I was horrified when, like some others, he awoke crying at 3 AM one morning (he was 3 1/2 months old then). When I went to check on him, I saw that the whole assembly with the animals and beads had fallen on his head! I was very upset. He had the string wrapped all around his wrist as well. We reattached the mobile the next day (I left it out of his crib that morning) because we thought maybe it had just come loose for some odd reason and it was a fluke. To my shock, it fell again a few days later, although he was not in his crib.

I contacted Tiny Love via e-mail and they told me that they had received similar complaints and that one of two things were happening:

1) People were not holding in the little button when attaching the animal assembly to the 'arm'. If you don't hold the button in the whole time it can fall like this.
2) Sometimes the little piece of plastic inside the 'arm' where it attached can chip and break, causing it not to lock into place.

Tiny Love did say they would send me a new one at no charge so I gave them my name and address. Three weeks went by and I had not received it so I sent a follow up e-mail. A week later we received our new parts (it came with a new arm and the hanging assembly). If we had not had this problem, I would have given this product a 5+ star rating. However, be very careful when you install it, and check it frequently to ensure it is not coming loose. We installed the new one that we just got a couple of weeks ago and no problems yet. Ours had chipped on the inside so it was not snapping into place and that is why it fell.

2We had lots of problemsNov 03, 2003

Clever design, very interesting and attractive to our baby. Probably be a heck of purchase, if you aren't troubled by the three negatives we experienced....

(1) We own a Morigeau-Lépine crib with curved rails on its sides and rear. Though it was not apparent on the box or advertisements, this mobile simply cannot be safely mounted on cribs with curved rails without extensive modification to either the crib or the mobile. I will go so far as to say that for all practical purposes this mobile can only be mounted on cribs with horizontal rails. If your crib doesn't, then you're out of luck (of course you can disable the drop-front to your crib in order to make use of its horizontal rail, but that seems like a rather drastic solution to make the mobile work).

(2) The music produed by the mobile is surprisingly high quality for an infant's gizmo. But there are only two volume settings: loud and medium. No real "quiet" setting.

(3) The mechanical spinning motion on our model broke after ten minutes. I am not exagerrating: ten minutes tops, with no rough handling. Not sure if it was an electrical or a mechanical failure, but the bottom line is that it doesn't work anymore.

5Love it (and true: the remote is really not that necessary!)Dec 17, 2003

My two cents about this fantastically designed mobile by the Tiny Love folks: our two-month old gets "hipnotized" by the figures SO MUCH, that the truth is he stops noticing anything else aruond him. This is why the remote is not that big of a deal: he doesn't really mind if you come in or out of the room, and as a matter of fact, he even loves the mobile if it's stopped. As for the figures, they are very colorful and well designed too... and the elephant is just too funny, twisting like crazy because of his extra weight).

All in all, a highly recommended mobile (any Tiny Love), but if you want to save a few bucks ($10 I think it is), skip the Deluxe version and get the regular one.

4Great, but save money - skip the remote control!Sep 22, 2003

Our 3 1/2 month old son loves the Symphony in Motion mobile, even when it's not moving. The colors and shapes are very stimulating for little eyes and minds. Don't expect this mobile to put the baby to sleep, however - it's more for keeping the baby entertained for 15 minutes or so while you shower or do things around the house. My only major complaint is that I bought the one with the remote, thinking that it would work from our bedroom. The outside package did not mention that you have to be standing no farther from the crib than in the doorway of the nursery to make it work. (That piece of news didn't come until I had opened the box and read the instructions!) Hence, I spent $10 extra for the deluxe version with the remote, but I've never used the remote once. I'd recommend getting the model without the remote.

3Great mobile but very poor designJun 21, 2003

My baby loved this mobile. It has great colors and movement that entertained my baby for hours, but it is designed poorly. I read the other reviews and decided I would get this one and tape it so it didn't fall off on my baby's head. After purchasing it, I could see how it could easily fall off because of the poor design. Secondly, it is a bit bulky and hard to set up. Thirdly, I would save the money and not get the remote control. It is a joke. I never even used it because it didn't work to turn the mobile on, all it did was switch songs. Last this mobile just quit working after a month of use. The motor just quit.

I rated this mobile a 3 just because of its great color, movement, and music, but the design quality is a 1.
