 So close, and yet...Feb 24, 2011

My daughter received this toy as a gift at 8 months old. She is now 10 1/2 months old. It is a decent toy and my daughter likes it a lot, but it scores very high on the drive-me-crazy meter.
Pros:
-Lots of different sounds keep it fresh and engaging.
-Lights and sounds are fun.
-Balls, buttons and rotating propeller offer different ways to use the toy.
-Early colors, numbers, letters help with earliest learning.
-My daughter's first word is "bye bye" thanks to the sound when the toy shuts off.
-It sits in my bedroom and engages my wee one long enough for me to get dressed. This earns bonus points in my book!
Cons:
-Just look at it sideways and this toy will make noise. Today it started talking to an empty room. Not sure why.
-No volume control! This is a problem when someone is sleeping later than our busy baby.
-The balls are pretty hard to insert. Hopefully this will cease to be a problem as my daughter gets older, since the target age is stated as 1 year.
-TERRIBLE lyrics! "Animals" has four syllables, "too" has two syllables. What??? The songs could have been so much better if they had been given just a little more thought. This is a pet peeve of mine, and so counts as multiple demerits!
-Other sound functions are a bit contrived. One recording mentions "the blue bear" and the sound effect is a giggle. I get the alliteration, but why not the brown bear? Or if the color is important, a blue butterfly? And don't bears usually growl?
Hey V Tech, add a volume control and hire someone to write better songs and sayings and you'll have so much more of my business! As it stands we will continue to enjoy this toy (a beloved family member works on a helicopter, so that is what is most important to us) but I will not recommend it, and will not give it as a gift to anyone with whom I would like to remain friends.

My son received this for his first birthday. This is seriously the LOUDEST toy that we own. There is no volume control. The music/voice is annoying. We ended up putting duct tape over the speaker the try to quiet it down a little. I don't know what Vtech was thinking!!
It has some okay educational features, but I can't stand to listen to this toy for very long. There are plenty of other toys out there with the same or better educational features -- buy one of them and save your sanity.

My daughter just turned one and she absolutely loves this toy. I like that it has educational value as well, and teaches early counting, letters, etc. She's been using it for about four months now, and it has held up very well, which is another plus. Overall, great toy!

I don't know why but this toy is super annoying. My 16 month old son loves it but my husband and I hate it-I think it's the voice and the music. It was a gift however from someone who comes over regularly, so we can't get rid of it. It has a lot to entertain the kid, we just find it irritating!

My son got this toy as a gift for his 1st Birthday and absolutely loves it! He is plays with it, at least, 2 times a day. We have had it for 3 months and don't have any issues with it. The on/off switch works fine. My son somtimes will throw the balls onto the tile floor and they haven't broken yet. We haven't even had to replace the batteries yet, which is a shocker. Overall, great product!
