 breaks too easilyAug 23, 2010
my 5 year old daughter loves the games of vsmile. unfortunately it's a piece of ***. first the adapter broke, so i bought a replacement. a few weeks later, the unit itself broke. i feel bad because we have amassed a number of vsmile games and was thinking of buying the portable one for travels. but with it's lack of durability, i'm moving on to leapster.

Blow on the cartridges NES style to get it to work!Aug 15, 2010
We bought this at a flea market for 5 bucks. And for that price, which you can probably get a used one on Amazon for 10-15, you can't complain. Like other reviewers on this site I had trouble getting it to work and turn on at first. Then I remembered my child hood and what I did to get the old NES to work, blow on the cartridges. This will make them work, this works for all cartridge based systems ( Nintendo, Leapfrog, V Tech).
Overall the games of which we received 3 included, are not all that great, but hey i'm 30, the 4 year old seems to be entertained. The graphics look horrible, but passable on our HDTV, but should look better on the "old school SD TV" in the child's room. All in all i'd give this a 3 out of 5, maybe when it first came out a few years ago a 4 out of 5. An Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 this is not, but for a 4,5,or 6 year old this should suffice.

The Problem May Be the Cartridges...Jul 28, 2010
We've had ours for almost 2 years, and for a while we had the same problems with it as a lot of the other reviewers. We were doing some spring cleaning this year and decided to give it one more try before tossing it. I plugged it in and got the same thing - nothing. Well, I hate being defeated by dumb gadgets, so I started looking it over. It powered up and ran the boot screens with no cartridge inserted, so I assumed the hardware was more or less okay. I then picked up one of the cartridges and slid back the plastic piece covering the contacts. The contacts were *filthy*. I looked at a couple more and they were all the same, so I got some cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol, and cleaned the contacts front and back. The swab was nearly black with grime when I was finished. I let it dry (~15 seconds), put it in the system, and bingo! It fired right up. I cleaned the other games and they all worked as well. It's been working perfectly ever since, and whenever a game won't run, we just give it a quick cleaning and it's back in business. It hasn't failed us once.
I don't know what kind of cheap alloy they make those contacts from, but it clearly tarnishes pretty quickly, and I'm sure little fingers poking around don't help, either. It may not fix every problem, but it's a cheap, quick experiment to try. Give it a shot before throwing out the whole package in frustration, like I almost did.
Oh yeah - My kids (5 and 3) really enjoy this system, and there are some good learning games available. I'm happy I could get it running again. I hope this might help somebody else with theirs.

We havnt had our console very long, and the power button stopped working. It powered up a few more times briefly but seems to be permanently broken now. I would rate the quality and durability of this product as poor. When it did work, both of our sons did enjoy the various games a lot.
 Im very happy I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old he loves it and so do IMay 18, 2010
I love the VTEC V-Smile game. My 31/2 year old grandson plays it and I see him gain confidence as he completes levels of activity. I would totaly recomend this product. The only negative is the game didnt turn on and off as it should with the batteries alone so I had to purchase seperatly for about $10 the a/c adaptor cord. Now there are no problems at all.
